Why You Need A Barbershop
At KC Shave Co, we talk a lot about the “barbershop experience,” but we realize that many of you haven’t had one yet. We want to change that. Why? Because barbershops make you look great and feel like a boss. Read on to find out why exactly you should search out one of these fine establishments.
First, when we say “barbershop,” we’re talking about something very different than a salon or a unisex hair cutting place. We’re talking about the old-school red-white-and-blue-rotating-pole-outside kind of place. Their heyday was in the late 19th century to early 20th century before Gillette began and the World Wars took a chunk out of our male population. It was a place where dads brought their sons to introduce them to their lifelong barbers. It was a place where men could shoot the breeze about nothing and everything.
More importantly than a barbershop, you need a barber. Why a barber? They are specifically trained to use clippers, offer a beautiful shave, and specialize in male hair. On the other hand, cosmetologists are trained to use scissors and offer perms, colorings, and styling. You can find anyone to run a pair of clippers over your head. Heck, you could do it yourself. But a barber knows the clipper’s intricate dealings and how to wield them well. Going to a barbershop versus a unisex place means the difference between a nice haircut that lasts and a one-week job.
Of course, we couldn’t not talk about shaving. A barbershop gives you an all-out amazing shave. The kind of shave you could never give yourself. It’s part massage, part facial, all out relaxation. Lounging. Warm towels. Creams. The closest shave you can ever get. The barber treats your face like it’s always deserved to be treated.
Lastly, you need a barbershop because you can find other men there. We know most guys don’t have a ton of friends, especially if they have a family and a full-time job. As in their heyday, barber shops can be a place where vigorous public debate takes over or casual banter flows seamlessly. It’s a place where you can learn about your community and make connections. There aren’t a whole lot of men-centric public places, and barbershops fill that void.
So next time you go to the bathroom mirror to shave, think about all the possibilities of a barbershop. That perfect shave, that perfect haircut, that barber shop camaraderie. Next email we’ll discuss how to find a great barber that fits your style. Stay tuned!
